We all know that our tyres are of the utmost importance when it comes to our safety on the road. They are the only point of contact between you and the road. Just as you would never drive your car if it were missing a vital part, your tyres are no different and regular checks are essential. When you check your tyres, there are a few key things you should look out for:
Tyre Pressure
You will find the recommended tyre pressure for your vehicle’s tyres on the inside of your door on a small metal plate. Check your pressures regularly to avoid either over- or under- inflation. You can always pop into us to have this done free of charge.
Minimum Tread Depth
The legal minimum tread depth for tyres is 1.6mm in Ireland. A handy way to check your tread depth is by running a €1 coin along the centre of the tyre. If the gold part is visible, then your tread is too low. It is always best to have your tyres checked by a professional tyre technician and we also offer this service free of charge.
Defects
Make sure to visually inspect your tyres as often as you can, looking out particularly for any cuts, cracks or bulges on the sidewall of your tyres. These defects can lead to rapid deflation or a possible blow out. It is important to have any possible defects inspected professionally.
Wheel Alignment
When you are checking your tyres, make sure to turn your steering wheel out so you can have a good look at how your tyres are wearing. Uneven wear may be caused by over- or under-inflation, but your vehicle’s alignment may also need to be corrected. Once your vehicle is aligned on our state-of-the-art machinery, you will get significantly more wear out of your tyres and your fuel consumption will improve.
